Thousands of homes will be built in new community east of Dallas

Centurion American Development bought a huge property in Kaufman County.

A huge land sale east of Dallas will bring a new community with thousands of homes.

Centurion American Development Group has purchased more than 1,100 acres in Kaufman County for the big residential project.

The Twin Lakes property is south of Interstate 20 and south of Terrell, about 35 miles from downtown Dallas.

“This property provides plenty of open space and consists of two large lakes along with creeks that will provide great amenities along with hike-and-bike trails,” said real estate broker Rex Glendenning of Rex Real Estate, who handled the sale.

Centurion American, based in Farmers Branch, is one of North Texas’ largest residential community developers. The Twin Lakes purchase near Terrell is the firm’s second recent major land purchase in Kaufman County. In December, Centurion American acquired the 1,350-acre Cartwright Ranch in Crandall, where plans call for approximately 4,000 homes.

“Entry-level, affordable housing product is becoming harder and harder to deliver, and I feel Centurion has positioned itself well with these recent acquisitions,” Glendenning said. “This pandemic seems to have pushed the single-family market out yet further.”

Kaufman County has been one of North Texas’ fastest-growing new-home markets during the past couple of years, with major builders heading east of Dallas to find affordable land.

Houston-based developer Hines just purchased 600 acres between Terrell and Forney for a new community with 2,000 homes.
